Alps printers for making decals

I have heard that Alps printers are what people are using to make their own decals,but there is never any mention of the what model they are using and what type of decal paper are they using? What is sublimation ink? What other processes can be used to make decals? I tried some decal paper and my ink jet printer. The paper was supposed to work with inkjet printers, but it failed miserably. Some one please reply!
