Top Chop Question

I have a question for the guys that chop tops. My question is-- how to you get the profile correct of the piece of plastic that you put across the top side to side to extend the roof to fit the pillars. I don't want to build it with the A pillars slanted rear ward too much to fit the new short length of the roof after the chop. I plan to chop a '32 Ford Vicky about a scale 4 inches and want to know how do I get the profile of the roof side to side to make the extended roof piece. How do I get the right curve and slope to the sides of the roof piece and even, maybe, keep the rain drip rails and not lose the shape and detail on the sides of the roof in that small length of filler plastic? Do I take the cut body and trace the profile onto a piece of plastic or paper or just fit a piece in there and cut and trim to fit? I know I will lose the stock roof filler molded into the body and will need to make it a solid top. Thanks for any help and I hope I have explained my question well enough to understand. The last top I chopped was on a first edition AMT '32 Ford 5 window coupe, black plastic, back in '63. No need to extend the roof on that chop. Thanks Patrick
